What makes a good fishing day

For fishing, a manageable breeze and limited rain can matter more than a clear sky. Gusts affect casting and comfort, while thunderstorms are a strong reason to avoid exposed water. This score considers those factors alongside feels-like temperature and fog. It rates the weather for being outside, not the likelihood of catching fish.

Check the forecast for the entire session and the journey back, particularly if you will be on a boat or an exposed bank. The tool does not measure water temperature, river flow, waves, tides or bank stability. Local restrictions and changing water levels need separate checks. A favourable window should support your plan, not replace information from the place where you intend to fish.

Each example changes only the listed inputs from a dry, clear reference hour: air and feels-like temperature 18°C, steady wind and gusts 10 km/h, visibility 10 km, no precipitation, 0% precipitation probability and UV 0. These illustrative results are calculated from the same scoring functions as the live tool. Several penalties can combine into a lower verdict.

A score of 70–100 is GO, 45–69 MAYBE, and 0–44 NO-GO. A MAYBE cap limits the effective score to 64, and a NO-GO cap to 40. These are the app’s suitability bands, not certified safe operating limits.

Wind makes or breaks the session

Wind affects how a session feels, but a fishing score cannot establish conditions on the water. This model subtracts points for stronger gusts and applies caps at 48 km/h (MAYBE) and 62 km/h (NO-GO). It does not use wave height, tide, river flow or boat characteristics, and those numbers are not boating limits.

Storms are a hard stop

A thunderstorm weather code forces NO-GO in the model. The tool does not detect lightning in real time or determine when it is safe to return to an exposed location. Check official warnings and local procedures; a later favourable model hour is not an all-clear.

Plan the whole outing

Select the actual bank or launch location and check the hours you plan to remain there. For boat or coastal fishing, consult a marine forecast and tide information separately. A city weather point cannot replace those checks. Check local access and fishing restrictions too.

The model does not use tides, wave height, water temperature, water quality, river discharge or fish behaviour. It cannot establish whether a bank, pier or boat trip is safe or whether fishing is permitted.

Fishing weather FAQ

What weather is best for fishing?

For this tool, a better score means more favourable weather inputs for time outdoors, not a better chance of catching fish. It does not use fish behaviour, water temperature, tides or river discharge.

Is it safe to fish in a thunderstorm?

Do not use this tool to clear a session during a storm. Thunderstorm codes force NO-GO, but the forecast is not a live lightning detector. Follow official warnings and local instructions.

How much wind is too much for fishing?

The model caps at MAYBE from 48 km/h gusts and at NO-GO from 62 km/h. These are software settings, not limits for a bank, kayak or boat. Exposure, water conditions and equipment need separate checks.
