Best Time to Fly a Drone in Madrid — Month-by-Month Weather

Plan drone flying in Madrid with 2015–2024 ERA5 monthly temperature, rain, wind and gust averages, threshold days, and the driest and wettest months.

Ten-year historical averages describe seasonal patterns. Check the live forecast and local warnings for your actual outing.

Best and worst months by precipitation frequency

For drone flying in Madrid, the lowest average share of days reaching precipitation at least 0.1 mm/h is in July (3.9 days; 12.6%), August (4.2 days; 13.5%), September (6.6 days; 22.0%). The highest share is in November (13.1 days; 43.7%), April (12.9 days; 43.0%), October (11.4 days; 36.8%).

This best/worst ranking uses that precipitation threshold only, ordered by the ten-year average monthly share of days. It does not combine temperature, wind or gusts into a verdict or establish when the activity is safe. Counts vary with month length; ties use calendar order.

Threshold-day counts average ten yearly monthly counts, so fractions of a day are expected. Each column measures a separate weather factor. Visibility and rain probability are not included. No historical GO/MAYBE/NO-GO counts are calculated.

Named thresholds and calculation method

  • rain: Precipitation at least 0.1 mm/h.
  • gusty: Peak gust at least 29 km/h.
  • gusts over drone limit: Peak gust at least 46 km/h.
  • too cold for batteries: Sampled low at most -5 C.
  • overheating risk: Sampled high over 40 C.

These are the named thresholds from the existing drone scorer, applied separately to the daily statistic in each column. Precipitation thresholds use the daily peak hourly rate, not the monthly or daily total. Wind thresholds use peak hourly mean wind and gust thresholds use the daily peak gust. Drone air-temperature thresholds use the sampled daily minimum or maximum. Feels-like temperature thresholds are not substituted with air temperature.

Daily wind speed is calculated from hourly 10 m wind components before averaging. Hourly precipitation and gust intervals ending at midnight are assigned to the preceding local hour. Local civil days include daylight-saving changes. Monthly values average ten yearly month values. Missing inputs exclude the variable’s day rather than becoming zero. Publication requires at least 95% complete days overall and in each month.

Location and coverage

Madrid, Spain: requested 40.4168, -3.7038; ERA5 grid point 40.50, -3.75, about 10.0 km away. Timezone: Europe/Madrid. Coverage: 3653/3653 complete days for each included measurement.

The 0.25-degree reanalysis grid represents an area, not a particular road, route or launch site. Terrain, buildings, shorelines and actual gusts can differ. Lightning, visibility, rain probability, weather-code, UV and humidity conditions are outside this table. Historical averages do not replace a forecast or official warning.
